The Model of Human Occupation (or MOHO) is a very important occupation-based framework and is woven into the fabric of occupational therapy. It utilizes a top-down holistic approach to looking at the individual, their meaningful activities or occupations, and relationship with their environment.
The model of human occupation (MOHO)-driven occupational therapy (OT) intervention was compared with interventions that were based on other theories, for example, biomechanical and neurodevelopmental frames of reference.
The client's thinking, feeling and doing are central to therapy and the model takes into account both mind and body and it has been designed to complement other occupational therapy theories. In this chapter we provide an overview of three of the models that have an explicitly occupational focus: Kielhofner’s 41 Model of Human Occupation (MOHO), the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E), 65 and Baum and Christiansen’s 8 Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) model. This frame of reference continues to be widely used today and different occupational therapists are continuing to present this frame of reference in different ways (for example, Trombly appears to have incorporated a biomechanical frame of reference into the Occupational Functioning Model; Trombly & Radomski 2002).
